A wedding in the countryside
It is common throughout wedding season to have multiple events on the same day, especially at weekends. This day is still strong in my memories for various reasons. Both events were local to home which helped due to the situation about to follow.
First came the wedding, it was rumoured that thunderstorms could hit around midday, and I was due to arrive to the drink’s reception for 2PM…. As a magician, weather can be a very concerning factor. It can affect types of material; nobody wants to see a magician with a soggy deck of playing cards. Especially if you have been booked for multiple parts of a couples wedding (I.E Drinks and the turnaround)
As always, I arrived at the venue 45 minutes prior to starting, better to be early. The temperature in my car was currently showing 28 degrees Celsius and had been progressively rising as I was traveling. I was blasting the air conditioning whilst sat in a three-piece suit attempting to delay the inevitable.
As the drinks reception was outside of a manor, there was no cover which meant with full sun exposure and lack of sun cream you can use your imagination to the issues that arose! On that very day temperatures hit 34 degrees Celsius!
This was a two hour drinks reception, I was due at a dinner party at 6.30PM. So, I had plenty of time in between the events…. thank fully!
Dinner Party in a restaurant
Suite changes are expected on exceptionally hot days like this one, luckily, I had a decent turn around time between the events, this enabled a shower, after sun and a fresh suit so I was fresh and ready for the dinner party.
When you are an entertainer, it is very important to stay well hydrated, along with moderate caffeination so you can perform at your best. My personal preference is to also keep a snack pack in the car, always got to be ready for all situations.
Safe to say on this occasion I was impressed with my preparation, as expected in hot weather and a suit, sweating is unavoidable, but I was still the best I could be for both events. A success!
